Abstract
This final paper deals with noun-noun compounds in English and German and its goal is to present the differences and similarities of noun-noun compounds in these two languages. English compounds are divided into four groups: based on the type of each constituent (noun-deverbal noun, noun-noun, noun-genitive -s–noun), according to their semantic properties (exocentric and endocentric), following with a classification based on the relationship between the two constituents (primary and synthetic) and lastly how Grimm classifies compounds (genuine and artificial). After this, as a comparison to English compounds, the situation in German is presented and also some problems which have occurred are listed. Lastly, blends and neoclassical compounds are mentioned because they are thought to be borderline cases of compounding.
Abstract (croatian)
Tema ovog završnog rada su imenske složenice u engleskom i njemačkom jeziku, a cilj rada je prikazati sličnosti i različitosti imenskih složenica između tih jezika. Rad je strukturiran tako da prvo prikazuje podjelu engleskih složenica u četiri podgrupe. U prvoj grupi su prikazane složenice u kojima je svaki član druge vrste, a da je pritom jedan član uvijek imenica (imenica-odglagolska imenica, imenica-imenica, imenica sa genitivnim nastavkom -s–imenica). Potom su po semantičkom svojstvima složenice svrstane u endocentrične i egzocentrične složenice. Treća podjela se bavi primarnim i sekundarnim složenicama koje prikazuju različite unutarnje odnose članova. I na kraju je dana Grimmova podjela na prave i umjetne složenice. Nakon toga, iznesena je klasifikacija na njemačkom jeziku i problemi koji su se pojavili prilikom klasifikacije. Za kraj su predstavljene stopljenice i neoklasične složenice koje su tretirane kao granični slučajevi slaganja i stoga su nužne za spomenuti.
