Abstract (english) Inclusion in education is an extended process and it requires numerous changes in educational system, but in the society as well. Students with developmental disabilities are a part of inclusion which should, among other things, attend to the realization of their right on equal education. In order to achieve inclusion of students with developmental disabilities it is neccessary to involve everyone from the student's environment and also, from the broader community. Teaching assistans have become one of the most important people in lives of the students with developmental disabilities, as helpers in acquisition of teaching contents, but life knowledge as well. In this paper the emphasis is on the experiences of the teaching assistants in Zadar and Zadar County. The focal point of the research was their education and motifs for applaying for the position of teaching assistant. In addition, this paper attempted to determine students' disabilities, the methods assistants use and the students' progress as well. Also, this paper tried to get an insight into qualities of a successful assistant, their satisfaction with the implementation of the project of hiring teaching assistants as well as an insight into cooperation with parents, other students, teachers/professors, educational associates and the impact they have on the socialization and the inclusion of students with disabilities. The results show that the assistants are mostly satisfied with some of the aspects of the job and the results students achieve in both acquiring teaching contents and achieving socialization and inclusion. Also, they are satisfied with the cooperation with parents, other students, as well as with educational associates and teachers, but they point out that they mostly cooperate with other assistants, which helps them the most. The assistants are mostly dissatisfied with the sallary and the status they have. In their opinion, this should become a separate profession, since people who help students with developmental disabilites would have been more competent and would have achieved better results.
