Abstract Izida, božanstvo plodnosti, majka svih bogova, zauzima značajno mjesto u religijskom životu stanovništva Rimskog Carstva. Izvorno, ona je egipatska božica koju su Rimljani upoznali s jedne strane posredno preko Velike Grčke, a s druge straneizravnim dodiromsa samim Egiptom. Robovi i utjecajni ljudi pristupali su Izidinu kultu, a u Rimu se počela slaviti 80. g. pr. Kr. U doba je Carstva odnos prema kultu bio promjenjivovisno o vladavini pojedinih careva.U antičkim se izvorima Izida uvijek opisuje u raznobojnoj odjeći s krunom od rogova i Sunca ili sa svojim hijeroglifom iznad glave, na kojem je prikazana kako sjedi na tronu. Njena su znamenja tat, sistrum, menat, ankh, kruna, rog obilja i ostali kraljevski nakit. Kad su kipovi u pitanju, najčešće je prikazana kako doji sina Horusa. Niz arheoloških nalazišta poput hramova, žrtvenika, kipova te natpisa svjedoče o velikoj popularnosti Izidina kulta u antičkom svijetu. Inicijacija se sastojala od elemenata posta, ispovijedi, dramatičnih večernjih obreda, simbolične smrti i mumifikacije, simboličnog putovanja kroz dva svijeta, krštenja te zakletve tajnosti. Većinu obreda i rituala iz Izidina kulta danas se može prepoznati u kršćanstvu. U antičkom se Zadru također prepoznaje utjecaj Izidina kulta po relikivijama kao što su žrtvenik Izidi i Ozirisu te natpis s teoforičnim imenom Izide.
Abstract (english) Isis, goddess of fertility, the mother of all gods, takes significantly important place in the religious life of the Roman Empire. Originally, she was an Egyptian goddess who the Romans met thanks tothe Great Greece, and also thanks to its own relationship with Egypt.Slaves and influential people were accessing in the Isis' cult, and in Rome she was praised in 80 BC.In the age of the Roman Empire relationship to the cult was variabledepending on the will and preferences of each emperor. In ancient sources Isis has always been described in multicolored clothes with crown of horns and Sun or with her hieroglyph above her head, which shows her sitting on the throne. Her's omens are tat, sistrum, menat, ankh, crown, horn of abundance and other royal jewelry. When we are talking about statues, she is mostly shown as breastfeeding her son Horus. A number of archaeological sites like temples, altars, statues and inscriptions attest about great popularity of the Isis' cult in ancient world. Initiation was consisted of elements of posting, confessing, dramatical evening rites, simbolic death and mumification, simbolic travel through the two worlds, baptism and conspiracy of secrecy. In christianity most of rites and rituals from the Isis' cult are recognized today. Influence of the Isis' cult is also recognized in Ancient Zadar thanks to relics such as the altar of Isis and Osiris and an inscription with theophoric name of Isis.
