Abstract (english) Young drivers are particularly risky group in traffic. Previous researches have shown that the link between sociodemographic factors, personality traits and driving styles among young drivers are not yet clear. By detecting the characteristics of risky drivers, it would be possible to make preventive measures to protect young people's lives and improve overall safety in traffic. The aim of this study was to examine relationship between sex, driving experience, personality traits and driving style, as well as relationship between personality traits, driving style and traffic accidents and offenses amoung young Croatian drivers (ages 18 to 24). A total of 306 respondents participated in the study, 44.4% were men and 55.6% were women. The average age was 22 years and the average length of the driving license was 3 years. In this study we used Multidimensional Driving Styles Scale, Rotter Externality/Internality Questionnaire and Croatian version of the HEXACO-PI-R Questionnaire. The results have shown that young male drivers achieve greater results on scales of angry and risky driving style while young female drivers achieve greater results in a patient and careful style, but also in anxious and dissociative driving style. The age and driving experience were not significant predictors of driving style for young drivers. Furthermore, conscientious persons tend to use patient and careful driving style, and avoid angry, dissociative and risky style. Low emotional stability is associated with more frequent use of anxious and risky driving style. Patient and careful driving style is related to less traffic accidents and traffic offenses, while angry and risky driving style are related to more frequent involvement in traffic accidents. Emotionally stable persons and persons with internal control locus are less likely to participate in traffic accidents, while extraverted persons more often make traffic accidents and offenses.
