Abstract (english) AIM OF THE WORK: 1) To present leading sexually transmitted infections, their clinical signs and symptoms, diagnostic methods and the therapeutic procedures; 2) To describe preventive measures in sexually transmitted infections; 3) To describe the role of the nurse in the implementation of preventive measures INTRODUCTION: Sexually transmitted infection is infection that is caused by the contact of an infected person with a healthy person and is transmitted to all forms of sexual intercourse. The risk factors are: early age in getting into first sex, changing a large number of sex partners, sex without a condom, sexual intercourse in an alcoholic or drug condition, and the existence of an earlier sexually transmitted infection. The most common sexually transmitted infections are: chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B, HIV infection and HPV infection. DISCUSSION: Sexually transmitted infections are infections whose number of infected persons can not be tracked due to their late clinical manifestation. Untreated persons sometimes do not know that they are infected and can cause progression of the disease that can cause further complications and death. Some of these infections do not have a specific drug affecting them and this can lead to a public health problem of the epidemic and the creation of resistance to certain antibiotics used for the treatment. CONCLUSION: The reduction of the number of infected people is achieved through the action of state authorities by means of policy measures aimed at health education, education and the possibility of testing and counseling in local public health units as well as primary health care. Nurses by interventions influence the further outcome of the treatment of the infected person and the finding of their sex partners, thus preventing the spread of certain sexually transmitted infections.
