Abstract (english) The Federal Republic of Germany is a Central European country of multicultural society, rich and turbulent past, but also of the most developed economy of the European Union. Along with the developed industry, it is increasingly recognized as an attractive tourist destination in the world, and tourism is marking a sharp increase in its overall GDP share. It is primarily recognized as the destination of a developed cultural and business tourism. Along with these two notions, tourism is becoming more and more developed on the rivers, that are numerous, and many of which are shown as an important economic resource. Some of the largest European rivers pass through or emerge in Germany. With their basin they pass through picturesque landscapes and important industrial zones. This includes numerous cities with diverse, world-famous, cultural-historical monuments and manifestations. There are also picturesque vineyards and small towns as well as medieval forts and castles that Germany abounds. In this final work, some of the touristically most significant German rivers are being described individually, of which the Rhine stands out the most. They represent an ideal way of experiencing German cultural and natural heritage, and for this purpose there are cruises being organized on them. River cruises in Germany have become, in the last decade, a popular form of discovering all of their attractions, and also, by smaller amplitudes, there has been a constant increase in the number of visitors as well as of the income. Accordingly, with the rapid growth of tourism on rivers and generally highly developed industry, there is a danger of disturbance of their ecosystem. Via sustainable development, they shall be carefully managed and controlled, in order to preserve their natural and cultural values for future generations as well.
