Abstract (english) The aim of this graduate thesis was to determine the relation between sociodemographic characteristics and behavioral problems in children of primary school age. The study involved 208 elementary school students, of which 90 students attended the fourth grade (43,27%) and 118 the eight grade (65,73%). If we look at the participants by gender, we had 107 girls (51,44%) and 101 boys (48,56%). The average age of the students was 12,4 years (the age range spans from 10 to 16 years). The research instrument was a survey, designed for the purpose of this research and it consisted of three parts. The first part was about sociodemographic characteristics and implied a scale for social support and financial availability. The second part consisted of 50 chosen propositions from the Achenbach (2001) scale for behavioral self-assertion of young people, which relate to internalized and externalized problems in behavior. The third part of the survey contained a subscale for family satisfaction from the quality scale of family interactions – KOBI by the author Anita Vulić-Prtorić (2004). The results of this survey have shown that the majority of children are satisfied with their families, social support and financial availability on the parents' side. The results have as well shown that there is no statistically meaningful difference in behavioral problems in relation to gender or age, except for the externalized problems regarding age, but in those cases the students were already in eighth grade. The results of this research also indicate that the prevalence of behavioral problems of children is bigger in urban areas compared to rural ones. It is affirmed that exists correlation between variables as well as satisfaction with family has a predictive value in explanation externalized behavioral problems, while in explanation internalized behavioral problems social support next to satisfaction with family have shown as meaningful predictor.
