Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate the attitudes of Croatian and Italian youth towards anglicisms in their languages. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses English as a lingua franca and describes language contact between English and Croatian as well as Italian. Moreover, the theoretical part provides definitions of linguistic borrowing and anglicisms and explains the language of youth and reasons behind the frequent usage of anglicisms. The first part of the thesis also deals with Croatian and Italian language policies and language purism and describes the concept of language attitudes. The second part presents the results of the study conducted in November and December of 2018 by means of a questionnaire that was filled out by Croatian and Italian youth. The questionnaire addresses the following issues: Croats' and Italians' exposure to English, their attitudes towards English and anglicisms in their languages, and their knowledge of replacements of some anglicisms. In the third part the answers given by the participants are compared with the findings of some previous studies.

Cilj ovoga rada je istražiti stavove mladih Hrvata i Talijana spram anglizama u njihovim jezicima. Teorijski dio rada predstavlja engleski kao globalni jezik te opisuje jezične kontakte između engleskog i hrvatskog te talijanskog jezika. Također, u teorijskome su dijelu iznesene definicije jezičnog posuđivanja i anglizama, objašnjen je govor mladih te su navedeni razlozi zbog kojih se anglizmi često koriste. Nadalje, prvi dio rada opisuje i hrvatsku i talijansku jezičnu politiku, jezični purizam u obje zemlje te objašnjava jezične stavove. U drugom su dijelu prikazani rezultati istraživanja koje je provedeno u studenome i prosincu 2018. godine uz pomoć upitnika ispunjenog od strane mladih Hrvata i Talijana. Upitnik se bavi sljedećim pitanjima: izloženošću Hrvata i Talijana engleskom jeziku, njihovim stavovima prema engleskom jeziku i anglizmima u njihovim jezicima te njihovim poznavanjem zamjena za neke anglizme. U trećem su dijelu odgovori sudionika uspoređeni sa zaključcima nekih prijašnjih istraživanja.
