The Cetina River in central Dalmatia, together with the groundwater of the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, forms a large river basin and thus forms an important hydrological system. The area is characterized by two types of rocks, impermeable that retain water on the surface and permeable that permeate water underground. The water richness of the river increases with the increase in precipitation, which depends on the temperature of the air and the impact from the Adriatic sea and the surrounding mountains. Therefore, favorable natural-geographical conditions and hydropower potential were the basis for the construction of hydropower plants. Today on the Cetina River, in two countries (the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina), there are six hydropower plants that use Cetina's power to generate electricity. In addition to these six, twelve new plants are planned to be built to further improve production. The construction will improve water supply and solve the problem of floods and irrigation.
