Abstract Slavonski Brod je regionalno središte Hrvatske Posavine, te treći najveći grad Kontinentalne Hrvatske.
Abstract (english) Slavonski Brod is a regional centre in the central part of the Hrvatska Posavina and third largest city in Continental Croatia. The urbanistic development of the city is defined by geographic location and geographic position. Its urbanistic functions changed through 20th century from craft, trading and military to industrial. During urbanistic and geographical development, Slavonski Brod has always been the centre of Brodska Posavina and in 20th century it became regional centre in the central part of the Hrvatska and Bosanska Posavina. Today, Slavonski Brod is facing demographic and economic challanges, which make urban planing more dificult, thus, potentials in the urbanistic development are seen in project planning as a part of EU fundings. The purpose of this graduate thesis is to give an overview of urbanistic and geographic development of Slavonski Brod, and to explain modern trends of that development with emphasis on EU funding. For this purpose, demographic, economic, geographic and historical methods were used, as main methods in urbanistic and geographical research. Urbanistic development of Slavonski Brod, from its beginnings to 21st century, is explained in historical and geographical research. Urbanistic and geographical structure of the city is shown through morphologic, functional and demographic analysis. Morphological structure is considered through the examples of urbanistic landscape, thus, this section serves as an introduction to problematics of morphological structure of Slavonski Brod and it represents a base for further research. Gravitational attraction of Slavonski Brod and its economical elements as a regional centre are explained by functional analysis. Natural and migrational movements of population and modern demographic challanges of Slavonski Brod are explained by demographic analysis of the city. Finally, EU funding and project planning is analysed through completed projects in Slavonski Brod, and plans for the further development have also been presented as an important element in urban planning. The results of the analysis showed that Slavonski Brod is in transition phase of urbanistic and geographical development, where project planning and EU funding represent main feature of future urbanistic development of the city.
