Abstract (croatian) Tema ovog diplomskog rada je konceptualna metafora, teorija čiji su začetnici kognitivist George Lakoff i filozof Mark Johnson.
Abstract (english) The subject of this dissertation is the conceptual metaphor, a theory introduced by the cognitivist George Lakoff and the philosopher Mark Johnson. According to this theory, metaphor plays a crucial role in the organization of our knowledge and shapes the world around us. It is, therefore, an essential element of our daily communication. Although metaphor has long been considered as a part of poetic language, the authors of the book Metaphors We Live By (1980) argue that the source of all metaphors is in everyday language, which then functions according to a set of well-established conceptual metaphors that dictate our use of language. In addition, Lakoff and Turner explore metaphors in literature to prove that literary metaphors also use the conceptual metaphors by naming the four processes used by poets. The purpose of this dissertation was to review the functionality of this theory in French language and find examples in French literature that support the claims made in the book More Than Cool Reason (1898).
