Abstract Predmet ovog istraživanja bila je neposredna i medijski posredovana komunikacija učenika osnovnih škola. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je utvrditi načine učenike međusobne neposredne i medijski posredovane komunikacije. Također je bilo potrebno istražiti trajanje različitih vrsta interakcija, komunikacijske teme i socijalno okruženje odvijanja tih interakcija. Za potrebe provedbe ovog istraživanja konstruiran je originalan anketni upitnik koji čini ukupno 15 pitanja zatvorenog tipa, 8 pitanja poluotvorenog tipa i 1 pitanja otvorenog tipa. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 159 učenika 5. i 8. razreda Osnovne škole Vladimira Nazora i Zvonka Cara u Crikvenici tijekom prvog polugodišta školske godine 2019./2020.
Abstract (english) The main subject of this research was face-to-face and media-mediated communication among elementary school students, and the objective was to discover types of face-to-face and media-mediated communication in use. It was also important to examine duration of certain types of interaction, communication topics and the social environment of those interactions. For the purpose of this research, the original questionnaire consisting of 15 closed-type, 8 semi-open type and 1 open-type question was constructed. The number of participants from the 5th and the 8th grade of Vladimira Nazora and Zvonka Cara elementary school in Crikvenica participating in this research was 159. The research took place in Crikvenica during the winter semester of 2019/2020 school year. The research was completely anonymous and conducted with a consent of the participants. The results showed that participants have statistically significant tendency towards spending more time in face-to-face communication opposed to mediamediated communication. It was also established that there are no gender differences in usage preference towards face-to-face or media-mediated communication. Both the 5th and the 8th grade students equally prefer spending time with their friends live. On the other hand, the 8th grade students have more media-mediated communication compared to the 5th grade students. In addition, 85,33% of participants have a profile on one of the social media the most popular being Snapchat (75,78%) and Instagram (72,66%). With that being said, participants mostly have genuine profiles, and the 8th grade students have twice as many friends on Instagram compared to their 5th grade colleagues (t=3,10; df=86; p<0.01). Regarding communication topics that students discuss among each other face-to-face, the most popular are posts on social media and talking about other students from their class. The biggest number of participants prefers spending time with their friends in small groups from three up to six friends (83,33%), and the most popular place for meeting their friends is school (64%). Finally, the research has shown that the most discussed topics over social media are school related obligations.
