Abstract Svaka je tjelesna aktivnost put k unaprjeđenju zdravlja. Osim toga, kada je čovjek tjelesni aktivan, osjeća se opuštenije, zadovoljnije i razvija još niz pozitivnih psiholoških, ali i morfoloških osobina. Uz to, poboljšava svoje motoričke i funkcionalne sposobnosti.
Abstract (english) Any kind of physical activities is a way towards health improvement. When a person is physically active, he feels more relaxed, content and he is able to develop numerous positive psychological and morphological traits. Therefore he improves motor and functional abilities. This is especially important for children due to their organism which is then most ready for the development of many features. Children can engage in some kinesiological activities on their own or as a part of organized extracurricular activities. The question is how many of them are included into organized extracurricular activities and whether they are sufficiently informed about the importance of engaging in sports activities. The primary goal of my research was determining the extent to which primary school children of 3rd and 4th grade in area of Cavtat, Gruda and Župa dubrovačka are involved in extracurricular kinesiological activities and if there any differences according to gender and BMI. Through anonymous online survey I have collected answers from 191 parents of students from these schools. The results showed that as many as 80% of the surveyed parents answered that their children are involved in extracurricular activities. The results show very clearly, that there are no differences according to genders. Both of them are equally involved in these activities, but there are stereotypes about which kind of sports are more dominant and typical according to boys and girls. Boys are more involved into soccer trainings and girls more often attend activities such as dance and volleyball. Although, they are included in different types of sport, both groups have a common goal - health improvement. As a result there is only a small number of obese children and there is no significant difference in attendance according to BMI. Both of them have equal BMI. Parents are the strongest link in educating children about the benefits of sport since most surveyed parents have very positive opinions about sport. Main reasons why children do not attend extracurricular kinesiological activities are due to disinterest and distance between residence and place where activity is maintained. In this case, children very often spend their leisure time participating playing outdoors or by consuming modern technologies such as television, mobile phones, video games, etc.
