Abstract (english) Newspaper articles that write about handball most often refer to the players, coaches, as well as the game itself. Traces of emotions can be found in many articles, which play a big role in the sport itself. Emotions can be expressed in different ways, be it with facial expressions, gestures or in this case with phrasemes. Phrasemes can represent emotions directly/ explicitly or through a specific context. In this paper, the research will be conducted on the basis of the German newspaper Der Spiegel, the Croatian newspaper Večernji list and the Austrian newspaper Kurier, which were collected in the period between the World Handball Championship and the 2021 Olympic Games. The research is based on the classification of affect by Martin and White (2005: 49-51), which distinguishes three categories: un/ happiness (hate, love, sadness, happiness), in/ security (trust, anxiety, fear,), dis/ satisfaction (dissatisfaction, curiosity, ennui, respect), and phrasemes will be divided into these categories.
