Abstract (english) Since the early age, children are exposed to a different media and the media have big impact on growth, development, raise and education. Everyday, in their free time they face different media. Media can impact both positive and negative on children. Children need to have media competencies therefore the big role in media education have parents. Based on the parent survey, an analysis was made. A survey contained children's "exposure" to the different media (TV, internet, video games...), the time spent consuming different media and its content and how important the media literacy is. The paper aims to determine how much preschool children are exposed to media impact during their free time, which media are they most exposed to, and which content they consume. The research was conducted in the kindergarten Župa Dubrovačka through a questionnaire filled out by parents. Interpreted results are shown using charts. The paper starts from the assumption that the mass media occupy a significant place in the preschool children's free time. The research showed how parents relate to the mass media, how much they find it useful or harmful to their children, and whether they have restrictions towards the use of mass media. Also emphasis was placed on media literacy, how important it is to be media literate and to pass on media knowledge to children..
