Abstract Emocionalna zaraza je tendencija prenošenja emocija među ljudima, odnosno tendencija da emocije jedne osobe reflektiraju emocije koje doživljava druga osoba.
Abstract (english) Emotional contagion is a tendency of transferring emotions among people, i.e. tendency of reflecting emotions in accordance with emotions that another person is experiencing. Even though emotional contagion is an automatic process due to which everyone is, to different extent, sensitive to emotions they are exposed to every day, people have developed strategies for regulating their emotional experiences. Besides trying to control their own emotions, people use different strategies for controlling emotions of people in their immediate surroundings. According to interpersonal emotion regulation theory, using strategy of modulating emotional response, an individual is endeavoring to suppress negative emotions of another person, while with antecedent-focused strategies, one is trying to influence the sources of these emotions in order to help another person to experience more positive emotions in a particular situation. Because the correlation of those two constructs has not been investigated until now, the aim of this study was to examine the correlation between strategies of interpersonal emotion regulation and the participants’ susceptibility to emotional contagion, and to investigate strategies of interpersonal regulation of negative emotions in partner relationship, friendship and relationship with mother/father and there relation with the satisfaction with the quality of a particular relationship. Since the susceptibility to emotional contagion contributes to the understanding of other people’s emotional states, it was assumed that those who are more susceptible to emotional contagion would be more prone to using the antecedent-focused strategies. Moreover, it was assumed that the usage of these strategies would be correlated to the greater satisfaction with relationship quality. The research was conducted on a sample of 216 participants who completed three versions of the Interpersonal Emotion Management Scale, measures of satisfaction with the quality with relationships and susceptibility to emotional contagion. Factor analysis confirmed some of the basic assumptions of the interpersonal emotion management model and the research showed correlation between the usage of strategies among three types of relationships. Moreover, correlation analysis shown that the greater usage of antecedent-focused strategies was correlated with greater satisfaction with the quality with all three relationships, and that there is a positive correlation between frequency of strategies usage and susceptibility to others emotions.
