Abstract (english) The fairy tale was born as a simple spoken tale and was passed down orally from generation to generation until it began to be transcribed. The events within it are narrated in indeterminate spaces and times and seem supernatural with magical powers, talking animals, and human characters. Its basic feature is reflected in the miraculousness and imagination, and with the way it is layered, a classic and a modern fairy tale can be distinguished. In this Master's thesis, an analysis of Ivana Brlić - Mažuranić 's fairy tales and her comparison with a contemporary Croatian children' s story is given. Mythology and legend in Croatian literature go back a long way, but most modern Croatian fairy tales come from the mind and pen of one of the most beloved writers. Ivana Brlić - Mažuranić is the queen of Croatian fairy tales and deservedly bears the name Croatian Andersen and Tolkien. Her famous work Croatian Tales of Long Ago is a collection of artistic fairy tales within which she skillfully introduces the spirit of Slavic mythology, Christian worldview, and ethics. The door to a new fairytale world opens with the founders of Croatian contemporary fairy tales, Sunčana Škrinjarić and Nada Iveljić. With their works, the authors introduced satire and irony, a multitude of new characters, and created postmodern forms. The last name, but no less important in the work, is associated with Snjeţana Grković - Janović; a writer with whom we find a strong influence of the ethics of Ivana Brlić - Mažuranić. With her novels, she built a modern fantasy story based on national foundations, in other words, she reconstructed the old tale through a new fairy-tale practice.
