Abstract (english) The aim of this study was to investigate gender differences in intimacy in same-sex friendship as well as the relationship between friendship intimacy and self-disclosure and social anxiety. Three measures were used in research: Friendship intimacy scale (PUP); Revised Self-disclosure questionairre (SDQ) and Social interaction anxiety scale (SIAS). In this research participated students from University of Zadar and University of Split, 67 females and 67 males from 18 to 20 years of age.
Results have shown that females have same-sex friendships higher in intimacy compared to males, or in other words, perceive more knowing and sharing, develop higher attachment in friendship and more confidence and trust. Also, on total sample, friendship intimacy was moderately to highly correlated with intimate and non-intimate self-disclosure. More specifically, males and females higher on self-disclosure perceive more knowing and sharing in their relatioship and rate their relationship with best friend higher in confidence and trust, which was expected. While for females there was no correlation between attachment and self-dislosure, on subsample of males there was correlation between attachment and intimate, but not non-intimate self-disclosure. Furthermore, on total sample and subsample of males there was no correlation between friendship intimacy and social anxiety, while on subsample of females there was negative correlation of knowing and sharing and confidence and trust with social anxiety. Females that perceive less knowing and sharing and less confidence and trust in relationship with best friend report higher levels of social anxiety.
