Abstract (english) The Dark Triad refers to three conceptually separate but overlapping personality traits: Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism. These traits reflect a socially destructive character with tendencies toward self-promotion, emotional coldness, duplicity and aggressiveness. In the field of humor, a theory has been put forward that distinguishes between two adaptive (affiliative and self-enhancing) and two maladaptive humor styles (aggressive and self-defeating) that refer to different uses or functions of humor in everyday life, particularly in the form of social interactions and coping with stress. The use of humor as a coping strategy is considered an aspect of humor particularly important for psychological adjustment and social interaction. The associationt between the dark triad personality traits and well-being prompt interest in potential links between humor styles and the aforementioned aversive traits, given the established link between positive humor and improved mental health. Since the relashionship between dark triad personality traits and humor styles has rarely been systematically investigated, the aim of this study is to examine whether and what type of relationships exist between them.185 participants who took part in the research (of which there were N=141 female participants and N=44 male participants) accessed the online version of the questionnaire distributed through various social networks. Participants completed three measurement instruments, which include the Short Dark Triad Questionnaire, the Humor Styles Questionnaire and the Coping Humor Scale. Results indicate that individuals high on psychopathy tend to use maladaptive humor styles, whereas individuals high on Machiavellianism tend to use only aggressive humor style. A high score on the narcissism dimension is accompanied by a tendency to use a self-enhancing style and maladaptive humor styles. In addition, participants with a high narcissism score ended to use humor as a coping strategy, whereas no significant relationship was found for psychopathy and Machiavellianism.
