Abstract
This thesis analyses the language policy and the status of the English language in Germany. It includes a small-scale study of the use of English and language attitudes among the students of the University of Finance in Nordkirchen. It can be divided into two sections. The first, theoretical one, analyses the field of LPP, LPP in Germany, and the role of English in Germany. In the second section, the results of a questionnaire filled out by the students of the University of Finance in Nordkirchen are analysed. The questionnaire was used in order to discover how much the students used English, and what they thought about it. At the beginning of the research, two hypotheses are presented. The first hypothesis is that the participants who, according to self-evaluation, claimed to have higher levels of the English language knowledge will communicate in English more often. The second hypothesis is that the participants who had been learning the English language for the longest period of time will have more positive attitudes towards Anglicisms in the German language. After examining the results of the conducted study, it was proven that both hypotheses were correct.

Ovaj diplomski rad analizira jezičnu politiku i status engleskog jezika u Njemačkoj. Rad uključuje istraživanje manjeg opsega o uporabi engleskog jezika i jezičnim stavovima među studentima Ekonomskog fakulteta u Nordkirchenu. Rad se može podijeliti u dva dijela. Prvi, teorijski dio, analizira područje jezične politike i jezičnog planiranja, jezičnu politiku i jezično planiranje u Njemačkoj te ulogu engleskog jezika u Njemačkoj. U drugom dijelu analizirani su rezultati upitnika kojeg su ispunili studenti Ekonomskog fakulteta u Nordkirchenu. Upitnik je korišten kako bi se otkrila mjera u kojoj studenti koriste engleski jezik i što o njemu misle. Na početku istraživanja postavljene su dvije hipoteze. Prva je da će ispitanici koji su prema samoevaluaciji izjavili da imaju veću razinu znanja engleskog jezika češće komunicirati na engleskom jeziku. Druga hipoteza je da će ispitanici koji su najdulje učili engleski jezik imati pozitivnije stavove prema anglicizmima u njemačkom jeziku. Nakon analiziranja rezultata provedenog istraživanja dokazano je da su obje hipoteze točne.
