Abstract
Svijest o važnosti hrane za ljudsko zdravlje postoji još od antike. Prvi koji je svojim djelovanjem i naukom skrenuo pozornost na to bio je grčki liječnik Hipokrat (460.‒377. g. pr. Kr.), utemeljitelj znanstvene medicine. Kao pobornik liječenja prirodom, Hipokrat je neprestano isticao ulogu prehrane u tretiranju raznih bolesti. U Aforizmima, najpoznatijem i najprevođenijem antičkom medicinskom priručniku, jednu je knjigu posvetio svojim zapažanjima o ulozi hrane u prevenciji i liječenju bolesti, među kojima je zasigurno jedan od poznatijih iskaza „Neka hrana bude tvoj lijek, a lijek tvoja hrana”. Na Hipokratovo se učenje svojim radom nadovezao Klaudije Galen ili Galen iz Pergama (129.‒199. g.), kojim je rimska medicina dosegla svoj vrhunac. U njegovu se opusu također mogu naći spisi u kojima se obrađuje dijetetika. Cilj je ovog rada na temelju analize odabranih Hipokratovih i Galenovih dijetetskih spisa dati pregled korištenja hrane u liječenju ljudi u antičkoj medicini.
Abstract (english)
People were always aware of the importance of food for human health. The first to draw attention through his actions was the Greek physician Hippocrates (460 – 377 BC) who was the founder of scientific medicine. He constantly emphasized the role of nutrition in the treatment of various diseases. In the Aphorisms, the most translated ancient medical manual, he described the role of food in the prevention and treatment of diseases. His most famous statement is: “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food“. Claudius Galen or Galen of Pergamum (129 – 199 AD) followed his work. He also wrote works on dietetics. The purpose of this work is to give an overview of the use of food in the treatment of people in the antiquity.
