Tactics of Manipulation, Buss, 1992, adaptirale Opat i Ombla, 2017), Skale za ispitivanje emocionalnog rada i Upitnika bračnog sagorijevanja (engl. Emotion Work and Marital Burnout Scales, Erickson, 1993). |
Abstract (english) | Marital satisfaction is one of the factors that significantly contributes to global satisfaction. Lower levels of marital satisfaction are associated with a number of negative consequences. On the other hand, higher levels of marital satisfaction are associated with different benefits for spouses. There is marital conflict in every marriage which is also an area of interest for many researches. By reviewing the literature related to these constructs, it can be concluded that the marital relationship and its characteristics play a significant role in emotional, physical and mental health. Furthermore, burnout in marriage and the use of manipulation tactics in the domain of marital relations have been insufficiently researched in Croatia. As far as is known, there are no psychological studies in the RH on the subject of emotion work with the measuring instrument used in this study. The main goal of this research was to examine the relationship between marital satisfaction and perceived success in resolving marital conflicts using tactics of manipulation, and emotion work and burnout in marriage. In addition to these bivariate connections, the predictive contribution of manipulation tactics, emotion work and marital burnout in explaining the variance of marital satisfaction and the perception of success in resolving marital conflicts was examined. In addition, the factor structure and internal consistency type reliability of the Emotion Work Scale and the Marital Burnout Scale were checked (Erickson, 1993), which were adapted for the needs of this research. 705 participants who have been married for at least 6 months took part in the research. Their data were collected using an online questionnaire that consisted of a sociodemographic data questionnaire, the Marital Satisfaction Scale (Ćubela Adorić and Jurević, 2007, according to Ćubela Adorić i sur., 2014), the Marital Conflict Resolution Success Scale (Ćubela Adorić and Jurević, 2006, according to Ćubela Adorić i Kovač, 2010), Modified Tactics of Manipulation Scales (Buss, 1992, adapted by Opat and Ombla, 2017), Emotion Work and Marital Burnout Scales, Erickson (1993). The results show that marital satisfaction is positively related to the success of resolving marital conflicts and emotion work. Also it is negatively related to burnout in marriage and indirect manipulation tactics for coercion and indirect manipulation tactics for humouring. The success of resolving marital conflicts is positively related to emotion work. It is also negatively related to marital burnout and using indirect manipulation tactics of coercion and indirect manipulation tactics for humouring. Results of regression analysis show that, after controlling duration of marriage and number of children, emotion work and burnout in marriage are significant predictors of marital satisfaction. Furthermore, emotion work, marital burnout, and indirect coercive tactics statistically significantly explain part of the variance in the success of marital conflict resolution. The one-factor structure and satisfactory reliability of the adapted scales were confirmed. |
