Abstract (english) Sport is a playing-based activity that is important for physical development and recreation. In addition to taking care of physical health, it also contributes to socialization and the development of creative skills and the acquisition of work habits. Sports are significant for primary school children because they develop self-confidence and have a positive impact on their overall development. In this research, a survey questionnaire was used, which consisted of a socio-demographic questionnaire and an educational-social questionnaire. Data were collected for a total of 248 pupils, 150 pupils from Gospić and 98 pupils from Garešnica, of which 53% were boys and 47% were girls. The study aimed to examine the connection between sports and school success, educational aspects of development and social behaviour. Based on the conducted research, results were obtained that indicate that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the student's active involvement in sports and his success in the field of mathematics, foreign language and overall school success. In addition, it has been shown that there is a positive statistically significant correlation between playing sports and the level of popularity in class and the size of friends group. Finally, it has been shown that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between playing sports and more frequent lateness to school and weaker commitment to class, which can be understood as an educationally negative aspect of doing sports. The results of this and such research can serve as a guideline for improving the conditions in which active athletes are educated, but also as an indicator of the direction in which more attention should be paid to some aspect of working with these children. The recommendation would be, for more precise results, to conduct such research in sports clubs, but also concerning students who are engaged in group and individual sports.
