Abstract
Problemi dobrobiti ovaca i koza javljaju se kako pri ekstenzivnom, tako i intenzivnom načinu uzgoja. Svaki od njih ima svoje prednosti i nedostatke. U radu su opisane kritične točke u uzgoju s obzirom na dobrobit ovaca: pothranjenost - izloženost nepovoljnim vremenskim prilikama i prenapučenost; smrtnost - pothlađenost, kastracija, odbiće i uzgoj janjadi u zatvorenim proizvodnim sustavima; ozljede - striža ovaca i grabežljivci; hromost - zarazna šepavost ovaca; izvala rodnice i cerviksa; mastitis; ektoparaziti - šuga ovaca, mijaze i posljedični preventivni zahvati, kupiranje repova, „mulesing“ i „pizzle dropping“; endoparaziti; dugovječnost ovaca; proizvodni sustavi s niskim troškovima ulaganja te prijevoz i klanje ovaca. Problemi dobrobiti koza slični su onima ovaca, pri čemu je naglasak rada na dobrobiti koza u nerazvijenim zemljama. U radu su također navedeni mogući pokazatelji dobrobiti ovaca i koza.
Abstract (english)
Sheep and goat welfare problems exist in extensive, as well as in intensive farming systems, with each of the systems having its advantages and disadvantages. The graduation thesis describes critical points in sheep breeding regarding their welfare: undernourishment - exposure to extreme climatic conditions and overstocking; lamb mortality - hypothermia, weaning and castration, and indoor lambing systems; injuries - sheep shearing and predators; lameness - foot rot; prolapse of the vagina and cervix; mastitis; ectoparasites - sheep scab, fly strike and consequential preventive procedures, tail docking, mulesing and pizzle dropping; endoparasites; sheep longevity; easy-care production systems and sheep transport and slaughter. Goat welfare issues are similar to those in sheep, whereat the thesis emphasises goat welfare in developing countries. Also, potential sheep and goat welfare indicators are presented in the thesis.
