Abstract
Kirurške infekcije predstavljaju značajan izvor morbiditeta, mortaliteta i troškova povezanih uz operacije domaćih mesojeda. Najustanovljenije i najučinkovitije strategije za smanjenje nastanka ovih infekcija su preventiva u smislu prijeoperativne pripreme pacijenta i kirurškog tima, pravilnog odabira antimikrobnih sredstava za pripremu operacijskog polja, poštivanje principa asepse u operacijskoj sali, odabir odgovarajuće operacijske tehnike, postoperativna briga te usredotočenost na jačanje imuniteta pacijenta. Kada se kirurška infekcija identificira, upotreba najnovijih saznanja i terapija zasnovanih na kulturi stanica pomažu u nadzoru daljnjeg tijeka infekcije, a pri odabiru same terapije treba uzeti u obzir povećanu incidenciju od nastanka multirezistentnih patogena u veterinarskih pacijenata.
Abstract (english)
Surgical site infections are a significant source of morbidity, mortality and costs associated with small animal surgeries. The most established and effective strategies to reduce the occurence of these infections are prevention in terms of preoperative preparation of the patient and surgical team, proper selection of antimicrobial agents for preparation of the operating field, awareness of asepsis principles in the operating room, selection of appropriate surgical techniques, postoperative care and putting focus on strenghtening of the immunity. Once a surgical site infection is identified the use of the latest knowledge and culture-based therapy are usefull in monitoring the further course of the infection, and the increased incidence of multidrug-resistant pathogens in veterinary patients should be considered when selecting the therapy.
