Abstract
Babezioza pasa je česta bolest pasa. Karakterizira je upala koju prati porast serumskih koncentracija pozitivnih akutnofaznih proteina i pad serumskih koncentracija negativnih akutnofaznih proteina. Neki od negativnih akutnofaznih proteina imaju funkciju nosača hormona štitnjače, stoga je cilj istraživanja bio utvrđivanje sindroma netireoidne upalne bolesti kod pasa sa akutnom babeziozom. U retrospektivno istraživanje bilo je uključeno 60 pasa kod kojih je u eritrocitima potvrđena prisutnost parazita B. canis te 26 zdravih pasa. Korištenjem ELISA metode u serumu pasa izmjerene su koncentracije tiroksina, tirotropina i transtiretina, a koncentracija albumina izmjerena je spektrofotometrijskom metodom. Statističkom obradom podataka dokazano je statistički značajno smanjenje koncentracija tiroksina, transtiretina i albumina u serumu pasa sa babeziozom, dok se koncentracija tirotropina nije značajno razlikovala. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na nekompenziranu hipotireozu i prisutnost sindroma netireoidne bolesti, pri čemu pad koncentracija albumina i transtiretina vjerojatno predstavljaju jedan od mehanizama razvoja sindroma netireoidne bolesti u babeziozi pasa.
Abstract (english)
Canine babesiosis is a common disease of dogs. This disease is characterized by inflammation with increased serum concentrations of positive acute phase proteins and decrease of negative acute phase proteins. Some of the negative acute phase proteins function as carriers of thyroid hormones, so the goal of this study was to determine the non–thyroidal illness syndrom in dogs with acute babesiosis. The retrospective study included 60 dogs with acute babesiosis and 26 healthy dogs. Serum concentrations of thyroxine, thyrotropin and transthyretin were determined using the ELISA methods, while albumin concentrations were measured using spectrophotometric methods. Statistical analysis of the data demonstrated a significant decrease of thyroxine, transthyretin and albumin in dogs with babesiosis, while thyrotropin concentration was not significantly different compared with healthy dogs. The obtained results indicate the presence of uncompensated hypothyroidism. Decreased albumin and transthyretin probably represent one of the mechanisms which contribute to non–thyroidal illness syndrom in canine babesiosis.
