Poultry farming in the Republic of Croatia is an important branch of livestock production. The thesis describes the day-old chick production technology, which requires strictly controlled conditions of the production process. The genetic basis, in addition to the prescribed preventive measures, helps to increase the specific and general resistance of chickens to environmental conditions. After selecting a quality genetic basis, the selection and sanitation of fertilized eggs of desirable characteristics is the first step in the production of day-old chicks. Incubation in industrial production is carried out in an artificial way that includes setter and hatcher rooms. After storing the eggs, the production process in the setter room lasts 18 days, and in the hatcher room three days, with appropriate microclimatic conditions needed during each of these parts of production. Eggs can be luminated on days 6 and 17 of incubation to check whether they are fertilized and embryos developed. The hatching process takes place in three phases. After hatching, the chickens are counted and inspected then vaccinated and sorted into transport boxes. The production of day-old chickens is the most sensitive phase in the process of chicken meat production, and presents a basis for further breeding and achieving economic profit.
