Abstract
Cilj ovog diplomskog rada bio je prikazati dosadašnje spoznaje o primjenama metoda fizikalne terapije kod gerijatrijskih pasa za poboljšanje njihove kvalitete života. Naglasak je, također, stavljen na samu prehranu u starijoj dobi, koja se često zaboravlja. Starije životinje trebaju posebnu njegu i brigu, koja uključuje optimalnu dnevnu razinu aktivnosti, prilagođenu prehranu te primjenu metoda fizikalne terapije u vidu povećanja pokretljivosti i smanjenja boli. Gerijatrija je progresivni proces koji se događa sa starenjem organizma. To je prirodni i potpuno fiziološki stadij u životu životinja, ali naravno i ljudi. Gerijatrijski pacijenti značajna su komponenta fizikalne terapije i rehabilitacije. Fizikalna terapija i rehabilitacija neinvazivna je metoda liječenja koja se često koristi u veterinarskoj medicini. Koristi razne metode, poput masaže i hidroterapije, kako bi poboljšala pokretljivost i svakodnevni život pacijenata te smanjenjila bol. Prehrana u gerijatrijskoj dobi obuhvaća individualizirani dodatak nutraceutika i prilagođeni udio hranjivih tvari s ciljem prevencije gubitka mišićne mase uz održavanje optimalne kondicije.
Abstract (english)
The aim of this thesis was to investigate the current knowledge about the applications of physical therapy methods in geriatric dogs in order to improve their quality of life. Also, the emphasis is on the diet itself in old age, which is often forgotten. Older animals need special care and attention, which includes optimal daily level of activity, adjusted diet and the application of physical therapy methods in the form of increased mobility and reducing pain. Geriatrics is a progressive process that occurs when the organisam is aging. It is a natural and completely physiological stage in the life of animals, but also in humans. Geriatric patients are a significant component of physical therapy and rehabilitation. Physical therapy is a noninvasive method of treatment, often used in veterinary medicine. It uses various methods, such as massage and hydrotherapy, in order to improve the mobility and everyday life of patients and to reduce pain. The diet in geriatric age will include individualized supplementation of nutrients and adjusted proportion of nutrients in order to prevent loss of muscle mass while maintaining optimal fitness.
