n this graduation thesis, topics related to proper donkey housing and ways in which their welfare can be improved are discussed. Shortly, for donkeys this means that they must have access to clean water and appropriate feed, in sufficient amounts, then adequate and safe shelter from adverse weather, provided veterinary care in the form of prevention of diseases, parasitoses and injuries and their treatment if needed, as well as freedom of movement and the ability to express natural behaviours, in the company of other animals, preferably of the same species, in the conditions that cause no mental suffering. Every animal should be able to live a life worth living regardless of the purpose for which it is kept. The purpose of keeping donkeys has changed historically and today in developed countries they are mostly kept for milk production and as pets, but they are still necessary in many countries worldwide for the survival of people depending on them. The behaviour of donkeys is also described in order to better understand this wonderful animal. Appropriate donkey housing is not only ethical but also profitable. Public awareness about their proper housing and care has been growing increasingly through tourism. Spending time with donkeys, taking photos and walking with them can be a great and relaxing offer for tourists. The least we can do is to properly care for them and express our gratitude because without them we would not have the civilization we know today.
