komponentom) i strukturnu (rijeđa, intrakranijalna patologija).
1. kolovoza 2017. do 1. kolovoza 2020. i utvrditi pojavnost rojeva napadaja i epilepsijskog
liječenja i ishod.
napadaja i to u 49,5% pacijenata.
Abstract (english) Status epilepticus is one of the most frequent neurological emergencies in veterinary
medicinethat requires prompt intervention. Similarities between seizures and some other
conditions can make the diagnostics challenging, but there are some clinical features that can
aid in making the distinctions between them. Depending on frequency and duration, seizures
can be classified into individual seizures, cluster seizures and status epilepticus, and according
to their type into focal, generalized and focal progressing to generalized. Based on etiology
epilepsy is divided into idiopathic (the most common, with genetic component) and structural
(intracranial pathology) form. The goal of this investigation was to search the „Vef. Protokol“
archive at the Clinic for Internal Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of
Zagreb between August 1st 2017 and August 1st 2020 and to establish the occurrence of cluster
seizures and status epilepticus, as well as to compare the therapy protocols with recommended
standard procedures and determine the efficacy of treatment and the outcome. The investigated
population comprised 103 dogs that were diagnosed with epilepsy. Most of the patients aged
between 1 and 5 years. Cluster seizures were the most frequently recorded manifestation
(49,5%). Most often used antiepileptic medications during patient stabilization were
benzodiazepines, phenobarbitone and levetiracetam, while phenobarbitone and combination of
phenobarbitone and levetiracetam were the most commonly used medications for chronic
treatment of epilepsy. In average, during chronic therapy lower doses of phenobarbitone were
used, especially in dogs without cluster seizures or status epilepticus. Fatal outcome was
established in 13,6% of dogs, the majority of patients were euthanized due to epilepsyassociated reasons.
