Abstract Kao rezultat niza specifičnosti poput sukoba, ratova, snažnih nacionalizama te uglavnom loše ekonomske i socijalne situacije jugoistočna Europa prepoznata je kao zona nestabilnosti.
Abstract (english) As a result of a series of specifics such as conflicts, wars, strong nationalisms and mostly bad economic and social situations, Southeast Europe has been recognized as a zone of instability. The international community, after the war in the former Yugoslavia of the 1990s, headed by the USA and the European Union was the one to influence further developments in this area. Meanwhile, the focus of the United States has steadily shifted from Europe to the Asia-Pacific area, and the concern for the stabilization of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans was left to the European Union. But, the EU faced herself with numerous internal issues such as the issue of the future Union organization, the rise of populism and nationalism as a result of the political and economic crisis that hit the EU in 2008, the migration crisis in 2015, Brexit and uneven attitudes of members on further EU enlargement. As a result, European union decreased her influence on South East Europe and the Western Balkans, creating a geopolitical vacuum that has begun to exploit other geopolitical players such as Russia, China, Turkey and the Persian Gulf countries. The SEE countries that are members of the Euro-Atlantic integration are facing the West, but there are still a number of countries in the region that are not members of the European Union or the NATO Alliance. The US and EU see these countries as weak points subject to under-influence. The economic and political impact of those geopolitical players in the region, whose goals are contrary to the interests of the Union, will be strengthened as a result of the weakening of the onetime dominant EU influence.
