The aim of a research was to describe craniometrical features of eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola L.) of both sexes, in juvenile and adult individuals, which could affirm presence of the differences between those categories. A total of 50 samples were collected during two hunting years in the area called Dalmatian hinterland. Determintation of juvenile and adult specimens had been done immediatly after culling, based on feather colors and tips of feathers. Heads were boiled in boiling water and bleached by 30% hydrogen – peroxide. On the samples were measured 8 craniometrical measures (according to DRIESCH, 1976.): the greatest skull length (GL), condylobasal length (CBL), the greatest skull breadth (GB), the greatest breadth accross the forehead sprout (GBP), the smallest breadth of the eye orbitale (SBO), the greatest height in the median plane (GH), length to the most aboral points of the forehead sprout (LP) and the greatest length from peak of a bill to the forehead sprout of upperjaw (LI). Statistical processing of data had not shown any differences between the sexes, neither differences in age of given specimens. Based on that, it is concluded that neither age nor sex can be reliably determined based on craniometrical features of eurasian woodcock.
