Abstract
Bjesnoća je jedna od bolesti koju čovječanstvo najdulje poznaje. Stoljećima je predstavljala značajnu neizlječivu ugrozu života za ljude i životinje, a glavni izvori infekcije za ljude u neposrednoj blizini bili su psi, budući da više od 95 % slučajeva bjesnoće u ljudi nastaje kao posljedica ugriza bijesnog psa, a od divljih životinja lisice. Ovaj završni rad opisuje biologiju lisice kao glavnog rezervoara silvatične bjesnoće, etiologiju, epizootiologiju bjesnoće te oralnu vakcinaciju lisica koja se smatra najefikasnijom metodom eradikacije virusa bjesnoće u prirodnim žarištima, s iznimkom kod šišmiša. Osim navedenog, rad prikazuje i povijest događaja bjesnoće, povijest primjene vakcinacije, postupke primjene vakcinacije, kao i konačne rezultati oralne vakcinacije lisica koji su doveli do toga da je Republika Hrvatska slobodna zemlja od bjesnoće.
Abstract (english)
Rabies is one of the diseases that humanity has known for the longest time. For centuries, it has represented a significant incurable threat to the lives of both humans and animals, with the main sources of infection for humans in close proximity being dogs, as more than 95% of rabies cases in humans result from the bite of a rabid dog, and from wild animals, foxes. This final paper describes the biology of the fox as the main reservoir of sylvatic rabies, the etiology, epizootiology of rabies, and oral vaccination of foxes, which is considered the most effective method for eradicating the rabies virus in natural foci, with the exception of bats. In addition to the above, the paper also presents the history of rabies events, the history of vaccination application, vaccination application procedures, as well as the final results of oral fox vaccination that have led to the Republic of Croatia becoming rabies-free country.
