Tourism is considered one of the most profitable industries that generates a significant number of international tourist trips and income. The effect of tourism on the development of the entire economy is highly emphasized. However, the great demand and development of tourism has led to mass tourism, which has many negative effects such as the daily pollution of environment and endangering biological diversity. For this reason, sustainable development of tourism that represents a balance between the use of resources and the ability of natural systems to meet the needs of future generations is extremely necessary. The graduation thesis consists of a theoretical and project part. The theoretical part is divided into 3 chapters; the first part is based on defining the concept of sustainable development and its principles, emphasizing its necessity today. The second part describes the issues of the National Park Kornati, and finally the definition and division of EU funds and the history of rural development program financing. The project part is based on writing the implementation of the project from measure 6 on the example of the rural house ŽUTI, which is located on the island of Kornat in Lupeška Vala. The goal is to renovate a rural house adhering the principles of sustainability and to contribute to demand by increasing the offer of accommodation capacity on the island of Kornat. The purpose of Measure 6 is the development of existing non-agricultural activities while preserving existing or creating new jobs with the aim of reducing depopulation and encouraging the sustainable development of rural areas. The project is aligned with the sustainable tourism development strategy until 2030.
