Foster care, as a form of providing social accommodation services, represents a significant segment of social care in the Republic of Croatia. It is regulated by law to ensure conditions and methods of its implementation, the rights and obligations of all participants, and support for both foster caregivers and recipients. The purpose of foster care is to provide the recipient with care and support in a nurturing family environment, according to an individual development plan. This work analyzes the types of foster care, explores the conditions for conducting foster care, necessary qualifications, housing conditions, and possible obstacles. The rights and obligations of the Social Welfare Center, foster caregivers, and recipients are also analyzed, including rewards and recognitions for foster caregivers, as well as conditions for the termination of foster care. The main problems in foster care practice are identified, and solutions for improving this social service are proposed.
