The International Labor Organization (ILO) was founded in 1919., XIII. The Chapter of the Peace Agreement of Versailles, as an international organization of the tripartite structure, with a view to promoting social justice and improving working and living conditions throughout the world. It is devoted to achieving equal opportunities for women and men for honest and productive work in the conditions of freedom, equality, security and human dignity. It promotes rights to work, equal opportunities for employment, improving social protection, and strengthening social dialogue. It can be said that the ILO was built on its fundamental statutory principle that universal and long – lasting peace can only be estabilished if it is founded on social justice. This organization has given the most important „seal“ to the industrial society, such as eight hours of work, maternity protection, child labor laws, and a range of policies that promote workplace safety and peaceful industrial relations. There are currently 183 countriesin the ILO membership, including the Republic of Croatia which became a member on June 30, 1992.ILO standards are conventions and recommendations, which I will later discuss about.
