The topic of this paper is dealing with sports activities among children with disabilities in general and what are the opportunities for the inclusion of children with disabilities in sports programs in the Republic of Croatia. The assumptions from which the work starts are that sport for children with disabilities and people with disabilities contributes to improving the general condition of the body, self-confidence and inclusion in the community (Petrinović, 2014) and that the number of opportunities for children and youth with disabilities to participate in organized sports activities is still too low in Croatia (Ciliga and Bobić, 2014). The first part of work emphasizes the importance of knowing the neurological side of people in order to later better understand certain disabilities, and then the basic impact of each sport on each child. The basic mechanism that mediates between sport itself and progress in a particular developmental area is neuroplasticity. Sports activities that the literature mostly reports on positive effects among the population of children with disabilities are therapeutic riding, swimming, tennis, climbing and martial arts, of which judo is the most developed in our areas. The benefits of inclusion in sports are highlighted at the physical and psychosocial level among all children and thus among children with disabilities. The most common physical consequences of inactivity for children with disabilities are reduced cardiovascular fitness, osteoporosis and impaired circulation, while the psychosocial consequences of inactivity are lower self-esteem, reduced social acceptance and greater dependence on others in everyday life. In the Republic of Croatia, the largest number of children with disabilities have their place of residence in The City of Zagreb, Split-Dalmatia County, Osijek-Baranja County, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Zagreb County. Based on this data, a search of websites for adapted sports programs for children with disabilities was performed. The largest number of opportunities is in the capital Zagreb and the surrounding area, and they enable inclusion in therapeutic riding, swimming, tennis and martial arts trainings.
