This essay highlights the importance of documenting children's activities. The process of documenting includes collecting various forms of documentation based on the educator's continuous supervision and observation. By reflecting on collected documentation educators become deeply immersed in the world of child imagination, their interests, competencies, knowledge... based on which they create adequate conditions for further child research and learning, and for further child development. It is stressed that these conditions have to fit and be in harmony with children’s abilities, studying speed and style, and with their interests. Creating an appropriate surrounding for active child learning in kindergartens, observing child activities and their documenting are just a few of many roles of educators in a contemporary pre-school program. In it every child’s individuality is accentuated separately with a unique identity and other important aspects characteristic solely for the child. That is precisely why special attention and importance is given to the already mentioned observation and documentation of child activities. In a contemporary pre-school program, we find a new pedagogical picture of a child as an active, competent and creative being. This understanding a child dismissed traditional means of tutoring in which the same content, already prescribed by others, is directly transmitted to children, leaving not enough leeway for their own selfinitiative.
