Abstract
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland by Caroline Eden, The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature by Perry Nodelman, 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next by Jeanette Winterson) and two from Croatian into English (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza by Nikolina Topić, Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag by Roman Simić). The commentary focused on the problems encountered while translating with special emphasis on how sentences are constructed and how ideas are conveyed, providing insights into the delicate balance between maintaining the original message and adapting it to fit the Croatian language and cultural context, and vice versa.

Rad se sastoji od pet prijevoda s komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog jezika na hrvatski jezik (Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland autorice Caroline Eden, The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature autora Perryja Nodelmana, 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next autorice Jeanette Winterson), dok su s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni ulomci iz dviju knjiga (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza autorice Nikolina Topić, Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag autora Romana Simića). U komentarima je naglasak stavljen na probleme pri prevođenju s posebnim naglaskom na strukturu rečenica i prenošenje ideja, s uvidom u to kako ostati vjeran originalnom tekstu i prilagoditi ga hrvatskom jeziku i kulturi, te obrnuto.
