Abstract
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland by Caroline Eden, The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature by Perry Nodelman, and 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next by Jeanette Winterson), and two from Croatian into English (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza by Nikolina Topić and Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag by Roman Simić). The commentary focused on translation problems encountered while translating figurative language (idioms, metaphors, and similes), with special emphasis on the strategies employed for translating such elements of the texts.

Ovaj se rad stastoji od pet prijevoda s komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski jezik (Red Sands. Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia from Hinterland to Heartland autorice Caroline Eden, The Hidden Adult. Defining Children’s Literature autora Perryja Nodelmana i 12 Bytes. How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next autorice Jeanette Winterson), a ulomci iz dviju knjiga prevedeni su s hrvatskog na engleski jezik (Staklo u Dubrovačkoj Republici u svjetlu arheoloških nalaza autorice Nikoline Topić i Iva, do Mjeseca i natrag autora Romana Simića). U komentarima je naglasak stavljen na probleme prilikom prevođenja jezičnih elemenata s prenesenim značenjem (frazemi, metafore i poredbe), a poseban je naglasak stavljen na strategije koje su se koristile za prijevod tih elemenata tekstova.
