Abstract
Zbog brojnosti biblijskih prijevoda na hrvatski Novi je zavjet pogodan predložak za istraživanje uloge različitih riječi u građenju značenja koje bi načelno trebalo odgovarati istomu značenju izvornika. U ovomu će se radu promatrati kako različiti prevoditelji iskazuju razlike u poimanju lika, onoga što čini i kako ga čitatelj shvaća u okvirima toga teksta. Građu čini pet ulomaka iz Markova i Ivanova evanđelja koji prikazuju dva lika: Isusa, središnjega lika evanđelja, te njegova učenika Petra. Oba su lika pogodna za istraživanje zbog svoje važnosti za evanđelja te brojnih zaokruženih zgoda u kojima se nalaze, a koje otvaraju mogućnost proučavanja njihovih karaktera te načina kako odabir riječi mijenja njihova svojstva u određenim okolnostima. Svrha je rada na tekstu s brojnim prijevodnim inačicama spoznaja koliko je odabir riječi važan u građenju značenja teksta te kako i vrlo malene razlike među prijevodima koji se odnose na isti izvornik mogu značenjski izmijeniti cijeli tekst.
Abstract (english)
Due to the abundance of Croatian translations of the Bible, the New Testament is a suitable template for exploring the role of different words in constructing meanings that should generally correspond to the original meaning. This paper will examine how different translators express variations in the perception of a character, what that character does, and how the reader understands them within the framework of the text. The material consists of five excerpts from the Gospels of Mark and John, which portray two characters: Jesus, the central figure of the Gospels, and his disciple Peter. Both characters are suitable for study due to their importance to the Gospels and the numerous self-contained episodes in which they appear, providing an opportunity to analyze their personalities and how the choice of words alters their traits in specific circumstances. The purpose of this study, focusing on a text with numerous translation versions, is to understand how important word choice is in shaping the meaning of the text, and how even very small differences among translations of the same original text can alter the meaning of the entire text.
