Abstract
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Watching the English. The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies. Mobilities for the Twenty First Century, The Age of Living Machines.), and two from Croatian into English (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka, Nasmijati psa i sedam novih prica). The commentary focused on the issues that arise when translating culture-specific items and the procedures used to translate them. The comments give insight into the process of translating culture-specific items and show the reasoning behind certain translation choices.
Abstract (croatian)
Rad sadrži pet prijevoda s komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski (Watching the English. The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies. Mobilities for the Twenty First Century, The Age of Living Machines.), a s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni su ulomci iz dviju knjiga (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka, Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča). Komentari su usmjereni na probleme pri prevođenju kulturno specifičnih elemenata i postupcima pri prevođenju istih. Komentari pružaju uvid u process prevođenja kulturno specifičnih elemenata i objašnjavaju odluke prevoditeljice.
