Abstract
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Watching the English. The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies. Mobilities for the Twenty First Century, and The Age of Living Machines), and two from Croatian into English (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka, and Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča). The focus of the commentary was put on approaches to the style of the source text in translation. The aim was to take a closer look at elements which constitute style (such as, for example, lexical choices) and how they are handled in the translation. Considering the fact that the assigned source texts differed in the genre they belonged to, it was interesting to observe whether there are any differences to the approach to style because of this.

Ovaj diplomski rad sastoji se od pet prijevoda popraćenih komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog jezika na hrvatski (radi se o knjigama Watching the English. The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies. Mobilities for the Twenty First Century te knjizi The Age of Living Machines), dok su ulomci iz dvaju radova (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka i zbirke kratkih priča Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča) prevedeni s hrvatskog jezika na engleski. Naglasak je u popratnim komentarima stavljan na pristup stilu izvornika u prijevodu. Cilj je bio promotriti koji to elementi tvore stil (primjerice, leksički izbor) te kako se njima pristupa u prijevodu. S obzirom na to da su se zadani izvorni tekstovi u značajnoj mjeri razlikovali po svojem književnom rodu i žanru bilo je zanimljivo obratiti pažnju postoji li zbog toga razlika u pristupu stilu.
