Main goal of my graduate thesis Oral – hygienic habits amongst younger school-age children was to examine what do they know about importance of oral hygiene and to check whether the students are conducting oral hygiene regularly. In the theoretical part of the graduate thesis we are going to get know the structure and the roles of the oral cavity, proper actions of conducting oral hygiene, how the caries is formed and spread in oral cavity, importance of dental examination and the effect food have on the teeth. Humans change two sets of teeth during their lifetime. First set consists of 20 teeth, while permanent dentition consists of 28 or 32 teeth. Due to the improper oral hygiene, various diseases can be seen in oral cavity, the most common of them all is caries. Sugar is the main reason caries is formed. Therefore, sweets sholud be consumed with the main meal of the day. Besides that, regular dental examination is very important. Children should have their theet checked 3 – 4 times a year, while adults sholud visit their dentist 2 times a year. Teeth should be washed after every meal for about 3 minutes. If someone is unable to wash their teeth after every meal, it should be done in the morning after breakfast and in the evening after dinner. In the empirical part of the thesis you can see the results of the research conducted in the primary school „Bogoslav Šulek“ in Slavonski Brod and Vranovci. The research was conducted by a survey with 16 questiones with 106 students. Results showed that students have a great deal of knowledge about importance of oral hygiene and that certain oral hygiene habits have been developed, while some habits need to be improved. Great role in the conducting oral hygiene in a life of students have their parents, and that is something that is visible in the research. In my opinion, it is still necessary to work with students through some additional education to improve their oral hygiene habits.
