Renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly important in the energy sector, with the long-term trend of replacing conventional sources based on fossil fuels. Theme of this paper is robust control algorithm for variable frequency converter of generator of wind turbine. Wind turbines are the most common among the full range of solutions. In order to obtain the maximum possible utilization of wind energy, designing the controller is a key step toward achiving that goal. The wind turbine, analyzed in this paper is the one with the DFIG (Doubly – Fed induction Generator) that has to have variable frequency converter to obtain the maximum power. The algortihm is based on stator – flux vector control for the rotor side converter bridge control, and the grid voltage vector control for the grid side converter bridge control to simplfy the differential equations that describe the dynamics of the system. Conventional solutions such as linear PID and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) are not robust to the dynamic model uncertainties and external disturbances. RISE control algorithms have proven to be an adequate solution to all the problems associated with nonlinear systems with external disturbances. The greatest advantage is the robustness of the RISE regulator to external disturbances and global asymptotic stability, as demonstrated using the Lyapunov stability theory. Unlike the conventional sliding mode control, RISE algorithm provides chattering free control, since the ''chattering'' effect can induce high frequency dynamics and cause unwanted construction vibrations of wind turbine.
