Abstract (english) The aim of this thesis is to explain the global phenomenon of binge-watching, which has not been thoroughly researched in Croatia so far. Also, to research if students in Croatia are following this trend and what motivates them to binge-watch. This global phenomenon means watching at least two episodes of the same series in one sitting. Because there is no Croatian translation, binge-watching is often called marathon viewing. The main difference between the two practices of watching TV content is the autonomy the viewer has over their own choice of what content to watch and when. The author of the paper introduces a new term – continuous viewing which means that a person binge-watch all existing season, and then, when the new season starts broadcasting, the viewer continues to watch the series at its own pace – waiting for the episodes to "amass" for them to binge again or watching as they are broadcast by television networks. The paper consists of two parts: The first part is a brief history of technology development that has improved the experience of watching television and series. It should be noted that HBO has begun the revolution of quality series at the end of the last century and that Netflix started the global trend of binge-watching. Binge-worthy TV series are characterized by a complex narrative structure and interesting, psychologically rich characters with whom the audience connects emotionally. Since the binge-watching audience has not been researched until recently, it is difficult to give a unique definition of it. Certainly, it is a young, active audience that has common ground with a quality audience. The binge-watching audience watches an entire season of a TV show in a few days. Besides, the trend of watching an entire season in a 24-hour span since it’s broadcast is increasing. The second part presents the results of a study conducted on students about their TV viewing habits and binge-watching motives. According to the results, it is visible that young people in Croatia are following this global trend.
