Abstract
Jetra je ključni organ u biotransformaciji i uklanjanju štetnih tvari iz organizma. Do oštećenja jetre najčešće dolazi zbog pretjerane konzumacije lijekova, alkohola, masne i pržene hrane, oksidacijskog stresa i slobodnih radikala. Brojna su istraživanja pokazala hepatoprotektivan učinak fitokemikalija kako u prevenciji, tako i u terapiji nekih oblika bolesti jetre. Njihov pozitivan učinak pripisuje se prvenstveno antioksidacijskom djelovanju. Antioksidansi su skupina različitih spojeva koji predstavljaju zaštitu od štetnog djelovanja slobodnih radikala. Danas se u prevenciji i zaštiti od bolesti jetre sve više koriste razne biljke te biljni pripravci. Polifenoli su najpoznatiji mikronutrijenti obilno zastupljeni u prehrani. Zdravstveni učinci polifenola ovise o konzumiranoj količini i njihovoj bioraspoloživosti. Mehanizama koji pružaju hepatoprotektivni učinak je mnogo, a uključuju antioksidacijsko djelovanje, poboljšanje detoksikacije i zaštitu od gubitka glutationa kao i inhibiciju sinteze leukotriena. Cilj ovog rada bio je istražiti hepatoprotektivni učinak fitokemikalija, prisutnih u brojnim biljnim namirnicama.
Abstract (english)
The liver is a key organ in biotransformation and removal of harmful substances from the body. Liver damage is most often caused by excessive consumption of drugs, alcohol, fatty and fried foods, oxidative stress and free radicals. Numerous studies have shown the hepatoprotective effect of phytochemicals both in the prevention and treatment of some forms of liver disease. Their positive effect is attributed primarily to antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are a group of different compounds that provide protection against the harmful effects of free radicals. Today, various plants and herbal preparations are increasingly used in the prevention and protection against liver disease. Polyphenols are the most well-known micronutrients abundant in the diet. The health effects of polyphenols depend on the amount consumed and their bioavailability. The mechanisms that provide a hepatoprotective effect are many, and include antioxidant activity, improving detoxification and protection against glutathione loss, as well as inhibition of leukotriene synthesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of phytochemicals present in many plant foods.
