Abstract
S obzirom na suvremene izazove poput klimatskih promjena i zagađenja, razvijaju se nove politike usmjerene na održivi razvoj i gospodarenje otpadom. Mikrobni lipidi proizvedeni pomoću traustohitrida Schizochytrium sp. održiva su alternativa ribljem ulju u proizvodnji omega-3 masnih kiselina, posebno zbog sposobnosti rasta na nusproizvodima prehrambene industrije i industrije biogoriva kao što su sirutka, otpadni glicerol i ulja. Cilj ovog rada bio je istražiti utjecaj različitih izvora ugljika na rast Schizochytrium sp. te na udjel lipida i sastav masnih kiselina u biomasi. Najviši prirasti biomase ostvareni su uzgojem na glukozi i glicerolu uz dodatak vitamina (14,27 g/L i 8,52 g/L). Prinos biomase na sirutki i ulju bio je znatno niži, a iznosio je 3,67 g/L odnosno 3,15 g/L. Sastav masnih kiselina u biomasi varirao je ovisno o sastavu hranjive podloge i izvoru ugljika. Najviši udio DHA u masnim kiselinama (36,75 %) postignut je nakon 12 dana uzgoja na 12,6 g/L glicerola.
Abstract (english)
In response to modern challenges like climate change and pollution, new policies are being developed to promote sustainable development and waste management. Microbial lipids produced by the thraustochytrid Schizochytrium sp. present a sustainable alternative to fish oil in omega-3 fatty acid production, particularly due to its ability to grow on by-products from the food and biofuel industries, such as whey, waste glycerol, and oils. This study aimed to investigate the effects of various carbon sources on the growth of Schizochytrium sp. and on lipid content and fatty acid composition in biomass. The highest biomass yields were achieved using glucose and glycerol with added vitamins (14,27 g/L and 8,52 g/L). Biomass yield on whey and oil was significantly lower, at 3,67 g/L and 3,15 g/L, respectively. Fatty acid composition varied with substrate composition, with the highest DHA content (36,75 %) obtained after 12 days of growth on 12,59 g/L glycerol.
