Abstract
Inzulin je polipeptidni hormon koji ima ključnu ulogu u metabolizmu hranjivih tvari. On potiče anaboličke, a koči kataboličke procese. Izlučuju ga β stanice Langerhansovih otočića u gušterači kao odgovor na povišenu razinu glukoze u krvi. Inzulin potiče stanice jetre, mišića i adipocita da pohrane glukozu iz krvotoka čime promovira skladištenje glukoze u obliku glikogena u jetri i mišićima te inhibira korištenje energije iz triacilglicerola potičući njihovu sintezu i pohranu. Djelovanje inzulina obuhvaća i metabolizam aminokiselina te proteina pomažući ulazak razgranatih aminokiselina u jetru te stimulirajući sintezu proteina. Osim što promovira skladištenje energije u stanicama izaziva aktivaciju transkripcije specifičnih gena i modulaciju staničnog rasta i diferencijaciju.
Abstract (english)
Insulin is polypetide hormone with important role in regulating metabolism of nutrients. It promotes anabolic, and inhibits catabolic processes. ß cells of Langerhans islets of the pancreas secretes insulin as response to the elevated blood glucose levels. Insulin promotes glucose uptake by muscle and fat tissue, activates storage of glucose to glycogen in liver and muscle cells and inhibits usage of fat as energy source. It regulates metabolism of amino acids and protein synthesis stimulating cellular uptake of amino acids. Except its role in excess energy storage, insulin also activates transcription, cell growth and diferentiation.
