Abstract
The Frontier Myth has become an integral part of American culture and is constantly referenced through nostalgic depictions through which the myth has survived. Cormac McCarthy's novels seem to challenge the relationship between dominant frontier values and nationalistic conceptions of American history. The frontier is a concept open to question and uncertainty and constantly revised which is why the concept is applicable in different places, times and people. Through text analysis of McCarthy's novel Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old Men and The Road, relying on the work of relevant scholars on the topic of the Frontier Myth, this paper analyzes the frontier ideology in McCarthy's works and identifies the themes that comprise the Frontier Myth.

Mit o granici je postao sastavni dio američke kulture i stalno se pojavljuje u nostalgičnim prikazima putem kojih je mit i preživio. Romani Cormaca McCarthya dovode u pitanje odnos između dominatnih graničarskih vrijednosti i nacionalističkih koncepcija američke povijesti. Koncept granice ostavlja otvorena pitanja i neizvjesnosti te se često revidira što naposlijetku omogućuje njegovu primjenu u različitim kontekstima, vremenima i ljudima. Analizom teksta McCarthyjevih romana Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old Men i The Road, oslanjajući se na radove relevantnih znanstvenika na temu mita o granici, ovaj rad analizira ideologiju koja proizlazi iz mita o granici u djelima McCarthya i identificira teme koje čine sastavni dio mita.
